Fever battle past Dream in OT for 4th straight win

Caitlin Clark had 26 points and nine assists, Aliyah Boston contributed 18 points and 14 rebounds and the visiting Indiana Fever held off the Atlanta Dream 95-91 in overtime Sunday.

Kelsey Mitchell and Makayla Timpson scored 20 points apiece for the Fever (23-12), who won their fourth straight. Boston added five steals and three blocks on the defensive end.

Allisha Gray poured in 32 points, but her final points came with 6:14 left in the fourth quarter. Rhyne Howard scored 17, Angel Reese had 15 points and 14 rebounds and Isobel Borlase scored 10 points for the Dream (21-13).

Timpson made three straight layups to give the Fever an 89-83 lead midway through overtime. Howard’s three-point play and three free throws helped Atlanta get within two, but Clark made two free throws with 9.8 seconds left.

Howard made a jumper that started the third-quarter scoring and gave the Dream a six-point lead. The Fever scored the next seven points to started a string of four lead changes before Borlase’s 3-pointer helped Atlanta end a 7-0 spurt and take a 55-49 lead.

The Dream led by as many as 10 points before holding a 72-64 lead at the end of the third quarter.

Boston scored four points during an 8-2 run to start the fourth, pulling Indiana within two points. Gray answered with a 3-pointer, but the Fever scored six straight points to take a 78-77 lead.

Howard made two free throws and Naz Hillmon added a layup to give Atlanta an 81-78 lead with 2:22 to play, but Mitchell’s 3-pointer at the 1:05 mark tied the score and eventually forced overtime.

Clark scored five points during a 10-0 spurt that gave the Fever a 14-6 lead. The score was tied five times in all during the first quarter, the last when Howard’s two free throws evened the score at 21 at the end of the frame.

The teams traded 8-0 runs early in the second quarter, with Indiana leading by as many as nine before Gray and Reese led the Dream back. Soon, Borlase made a 3-pointer to tie the score at 38.

Timpson made two free throws to break the tie before the Dream scored the final six points to grab a 44-40 halftime lead.
