Prince Owusu extended his goal-scoring streak to four matches with a 79th-minute equalizer for host CF Montreal, which battled 10-man Los Angeles Galaxy to a 2-2 draw on Saturday night.
Owusu’s goal came after Galaxy goalkeeper JT Marcinkowski was sent off in the 68th minute after his sliding tackle denied the Montreal striker an obvious goal-scoring opportunity. CF Montreal (5-10-6, 21 points) extended their unbeaten streak to four matches (1-0-3).
LA (6-8-8, 26 points) avoided defeat for the fourth time in five outings (1-1-3) but finished a man down for the third consecutive match.
With just over 10 minutes remaining in regulation time, and with Montreal playing with a man advantage, Owusu matched his career-high total with his 13th goal of the season.
After a nifty touch from Fabian Herbers on the left flank found Luca Petrasso, Petrasso’s cross inside the box met the head of Owusu and sailed past backup Galaxy goalkeeper Novak Micovic to level the match at 2-2.
Owusu’s goal cancelled out Maya Yoshida’s go-ahead goal in the 48th minute. Joseph Paintsil’s low pass into the penalty area reached the Galaxy center back, who settled the ball and, with his back to goal, back-heeled it into the net for just his seventh goal in 91 MLS appearances.
Daniel Rios (16th minute) opened the scoring for Montreal with his third goal of the season before Ruben Ramos Jr. tied the match at 1-1 in the 20th minute with his first MLS goal.
Thomas Gillier stopped three of the five LA shots he faced. Marcinkowski stopped three of four Montreal attempts on goal before his dismissal. Micovic finished with one save on two attempts.
CF Montreal moved to 3-3-5 at home with the draw. The Galaxy are now 3-4-4 on the road.
Montreal forward Alexis Sanchez made his home debut in the 62nd minute, entering for Dani Pereira.
