The PGA Tour has suspended Champions Tour golfer Matt Gogel for six months for violating its Integrity Program by wagering on golf.
First reported by Golfweek on Monday, a PGA Tour investigation determined that Gogel placed bets on golf-related events. The organization said in a statement that those bets were not on tournaments in which Gogel played, though it declined to specify on which events he wagered.
Gogel, 55, turned pro in 1994 and has one PGA Tour title, won at the 2002 AT&T Pebble Beach National Pro-Am. He competed in 18 events on the Champions Tour this year and most recently tied for 30th at the Rogers Charity Classic last weekend in Calgary, Alberta.
The PGA Tour said Gogel has cooperated fully throughout the process.
“In 2024 and 2025, I unknowingly violated the PGA Tour policy by placing small recreational wagers on golf,” Gogel said in a statement released through the PGA Tour. “I want to be clear that these wagers were not placed on regular PGA TOUR events, PGA TOUR Champions events or any tournament in which I participated.
“I would never knowingly violate the integrity of the game of golf. I made an honest mistake, and I look forward to playing in 2027 on the PGA Tour Champions.”
Gogel’s suspension began Sunday and will run through Feb. 22, 2027. It covers all PGA Tour-sanctioned events.
