Brandon Nimmo had four hits and five RBIs for the Texas Rangers in an 8-5 win against the Athletics in the second game of their three-game series on Tuesday evening in Arlington, Texas.
Corey Seager doubled twice and scored three runs, and Wyatt Langford had two hits and scored twice for the Rangers (69-70), who have won three in a row following a four-game skid.
Texas left-hander MacKenzie Gore (8-10) allowed one run and five hits in 5 1/3 innings. He struck out four and walked four.
Jeff McNeil homered, Michael Stefanic had two hits and an RBI, Jonah Heim also had two hits, and Lawrence Butler drove in two runs for the A’s (53-86), who have lost five in a row.
A’s opener Brady Basso (0-2) went 2 1/3 innings, allowing two runs and four hits with two strikeouts and no walks.
Seager doubled with one out in the first and scored when Nimmo rolled an opposite-field double up the third-base line with two outs to make it 1-0.
The A’s scored with two outs in the third after Rangers third baseman Cody Freeman made a diving stop on Zack Gelof’s grounder, but his throw was in the dirt and got away from first baseman Jake Burger, allowing Gelof to take second on the error.
Butler then rolled a ground-ball single up the middle to score Gelof and tie it 1-1.
Seager and Nimmo teamed up again in the bottom half of third to retake the lead. Seager doubled down the right-field line with one out and Nimmo had a line-drive single to left with two outs to score Seager for a 2-1 lead.
Joc Pederson led off the fifth with a pinch-hit opposite-field single off the third-base bag. Seager followed with a walk, bringing Luis Medina into the game to face Langford, who singled to left to load the bases.
Nimmo then grounded a full-count pitch through the right side to score two runs and extend the lead to 4-1.
Texas tacked on another run in the inning on a groundout to make it 5-1.
The Rangers added sacrifice flies by Logan O’Hoppe and Seager in the sixth to make it 7-1. Nimmo then followed with another RBI single to make it 8-1.
Stefanic had an RBI single in the seventh to cut it to 8-2, and Butler’s sacrifice fly in the eighth made it 8-3.
McNeil hit a two-run homer in the ninth to cut it to 8-5.
