Tommy Edman hit a go-ahead three-run home run in the seventh inning as the Los Angeles Dodgers rallied for a 6-5 victory over the visiting Washington Nationals on Saturday.

Teoscar Hernandez had an RBI single in the first inning as the Dodgers (85-57) earned their third victory in three days without Shohei Ohtani, who is out with a sore left knee and sore right biceps.

Edman was occupying Ohtani’s leadoff spot, while Hernandez replaced Ohtani as designated hitter.

Dodgers right-hander Tyler Glasnow tied a season high by allowing four runs over six-plus innings but didn’t factor into the decision. Left-hander Alex Vesia (2-1) pitched one inning to earn the win and Tanner Scott pitched the ninth for his 21st save.

Right-hander Cade Cavalli rebounded from a rough first inning to allow two runs over six innings, while retiring 16 of the last 17 batters he faced. Dylan Crews and Daylen Lile each had RBI doubles for Washington (67-77), which lost its third consecutive game.

The Dodgers got off to a fast start against Cavalli after Freddie Freeman was hit by a pitch with one out in the first inning. Mookie Betts followed with a single and Hernandez singled to left for a 1-0 lead. Hunter Feduccia followed with his own RBI single for a 2-0 advantage.

The Nationals pulled within a run in the second inning when CJ Abrams singled, stole second and eventually scored on a sacrifice fly from Jose Tena.

A Keibert Ruiz single to right field against his former club scored Brady House and Crews followed with an RBI double for a 3-2 Washington lead in the fourth.

The Nationals increased the advantage to 4-2 in the seventh inning. A Crews double knocked Glasnow from the game and Lile followed with a one-out RBI double off Vesia.

After Edman’s home run off Clayton Beeter (5-5) put the Dodgers up in the seventh, they added a run in the eighth when Alex Call was hit by a pitch with the bases loaded.

The Nationals scored in the ninth on a Lile single and had the potential game-tying run at third with the go-ahead run at second before Scott struck out CJ Abrams to end the game.
