With their playoff hopes dwindling by the day, the Seattle Mariners will take a look at their top position player prospect, calling up infielder/outfielder Michael Arroyo from Triple-A Tacoma on Sunday.

Arroyo, 21, Seattle’s No. 3 overall prospect per MLB Pipeline, will make his major league debut Sunday, starting at second base and batting eighth in the series finale against the visiting Athletics.

In other moves Sunday, the Mariners optioned infielder Patrick Wisdom to Triple-A and transferred right-hander Nick Davila (SC joint sprain) to the 60-day injured list.

Seattle, the defending American League West champion, entered Sunday seven games behind division-leading Houston and six back in the AL’s wild-card race, with five teams between them and the final playoff berth.

Arroyo, a native of Colombia, is batting a combined .283 with 18 home runs and 81 RBIs in 114 games between Tacoma and Double-A Arkansas this season. In parts of five minor-league seasons since signing as an international free agent in 2022, he is a .277 hitter with 65 home runs and 274 RBIs in 467 games in left field, second base, third base and shortstop.

Wisdom, 34, played in 15 games with the Mariners, batting .106 with one home run and four RBIs. In parts of eight seasons with the St. Louis Cardinals (2018), Texas Rangers (2019), Chicago Cubs (2020-24) and Mariners (2026), the Cardinals’ 2012 first-round pick is a .205 hitter with 89 home runs and 211 RBIs in 474 games.

Davila, 27, who was placed on the 15-day IL on Aug. 30, made his major league debut this season with Seattle, posting a 4.94 ERA and one save in 24 relief appearances. Originally signed as an undrafted free agent by the Detroit Tigers in 2020, he signed a minor-league deal with the Mariners in 2023.
