Reid Detmers pitched six scoreless innings and Zach Neto hit a two-run homer to help the visiting Los Angeles Angels beat the Boston Red Sox 6-1 Tuesday night.
Detmers (5-8) limited Boston (80-66) to one hit, a first-inning single by Wilyer Abreu. He struck out nine and walked one. Detmers was pulled after throwing 112 pitches (73 strikes).
Neto went 4 for 5 in the win. Los Angeles (55-90) received two-hit games from Vaughn Grissom, Christian Moore, Moises Ballesteros and Travis d’Arnaud.
The Angels, who collected 15 hits in the win, entered Tuesday’s game with two victories in their last 14 games.
Boston starter Patrick Sandoval (1-5) allowed four runs on 10 hits in six innings. He struck out seven and walked two.
The Red Sox were held to four hits and struck out 13 times. Nick Sogard collected two of the four hits and had Boston’s lone RBI.
It was the first time the Angels have beaten the Red Sox in five games this season. The loss ended Boston’s five-game winning streak.
The Angels opened the scoring in the second. Grissom doubled, moved to third on Ballesteros’ bunt single and scored when Moore grounded into a double play.
Los Angeles extended its lead to 3-0 in the third on RBI singles from Jose Siri and Grissom. It became 4-0 when d’Arnaud scored on Trout’s double play in the fifth.
Boston trimmed its deficit to 4-1 in the seventh. Trevor Story led off the inning with a double and scored on Sogard’s single.
Neto’s fourth hit was a two-run homer in the ninth. It was his 24th of the season and gave Los Angeles a 6-1 lead.
