Dylan Beavers drove in three runs during Baltimore’s eight-run third inning and the Orioles went on to defeat the visiting Cleveland Guardians 9-5 on Wednesday.

Beavers produced a two-run double and an RBI single during the big inning, and Leody Taveras rapped two singles in the frame.

Baltimore’s Coby Mayo added a solo homer in the sixth.

The Orioles (71-76), who won for just the second time in the past nine games, claimed the first and third games of the three-game series. They completed a 2-5 homestand.

Baltimore starter Shane Baz (6-15) received much-needed run support to pick up his second victory in 15 starts since mid-June. He left after 5 2/3 innings, charged with five runs on six hits and one walk with five strikeouts. Rico Garcia got the final four outs his seventh save.

Chase DeLauter’s two-run homer in the first inning and Nathaniel Lowe’s two-run blast in the sixth were highlights for the Guardians (74-73). DeLauter, Angel Genao and Steven Kwan had two hits apiece.

Cleveland starter Foster Griffin (15-5) lasted 2 1/3 innings, allowing eight runs on seven hits with two walks and four strikeouts.

Baltimore’s Carlos Navaez posted two hits.

DeLauter, who missed the previous four games because of a wrist injury, hammered his 14th homer before an out was recorded in the game. Kwan led off with a single before DeLauter hit a 410-foot shot to right.

Beavers tied the game with his two-run double in the third, and he scored the go-ahead run when Christian Encarnacion-Strand was hit by a pitch with the bases loaded. Jackson Holliday’s single made it 4-2, and Rece Hinds followed with a sacrifice fly for the first out of the inning.

Jeremiah Jackson, who was recalled from the minors by the Orioles earlier in the day, stretched the lead to 6-2 with a run-scoring single. Taveras then singled in a run, marking the last batter Griffin faced — and the 10th of the inning.

Beavers knocked in the final run of the frame with a two-out single off Matt Festa. The inning ended with the bases loaded.

Lowe delivered a two-out, two-run homer in the sixth, his 17th of the season. Patrick Bailey’s subsequent RBI double allowed Cleveland to cut the gap to 8-5 before Baz’s exit.

Mayo homered in the bottom of the sixth to curtail Cleveland’s momentum. It was his third long ball of the series and 22nd of the year.
