Drake Baldwin lined a two-out RBI double to center field in the 11th inning to cap a two-run rally and give the Atlanta Braves a 6-5 victory over the visiting Philadelphia Phillies on Friday.
Atlanta, trailing 5-4, tied the game on Ha-Seong Kim’s two-out single and walked it off on Baldwin’s double against Brooks Raley (5-6). Didier Fuentes (7-2) was the winning pitcher.
Philadelphia had taken the lead in the top of the 11th on an RBI single by Luis Arraez.
The win allowed the Braves (87-61) to extend their National League East lead over the Phillies (82-66) to five games.
Neither starting pitcher figured in the decision.
Atlanta’s Chris Sale allowed three runs — all in the second inning — on three hits and two walks with six strikeouts in seven innings. Philadelphia’s Aaron Nola gave up two runs in 6 1/3 innings. He allowed six hits and three walks, striking out three.
Matt Olson gave the Braves a 1-0 lead in the first with an opposite-field homer, his 38th, that clipped the left field foul pole. It was his first home run since Aug. 26 against the Dodgers.
Derek Hill produced Philadelphia’s offense in the second. With two outs, Edmundo Sosa singled, Bryan De La Cruz walked and J.T. Realmuto was hit by a pitch. With the bases loaded, Hill split the gap with a double that cleared the bases for a 3-1 lead.
Atlanta cut its deficit to 3-2 when Austin Riley led off the seventh with a 434-foot homer into the left-center-field stands.
The Braves tied the game in the ninth against Jonathan Bowlan. Mike Yastrzemski, who was 3-for-3, singled with one out. Pinch runner DaShawn Keirsey Jr. scored when Sean Murphy singled and center fielder Hill bobbled the ball for an error.
Both teams scored in the 10th. The Phillies scored when Justin Crawford lined the first pitch from Raisel Iglesias to center field to drive in automatic runner Bryson Stott. Atlanta tied it when automatic runner Brewer Hicklen, who pinch ran for Olson, scored on Mauricio Dubon’s sacrifice fly to center.
The game’s first pitch was delayed 47 minutes after a thunderstorm swept through the area.
