The Texas Rangers activated right-hander Nathan Eovaldi (right posterior elbow inflammation) from the 15-day injured list and third baseman Josh Jung (left calf strain) from the 10-day injured list on Saturday prior to the Rangers’ game against the host Arizona Diamondbacks in Phoenix.
In corresponding moves, catcher Logan O’Hoppe and left-hander Adam Macko were optioned to Triple-A Round Rock.
Eovaldi has posted a 4.21 ERA, 1.206 WHIP and 137 strikeouts in 22 starts this season. The two-time All-Star had a blistering 1.73 ERA, 0.854 WHIP and 129 strikeouts in 22 starts last season. He has been out of action since Aug. 7, with the same injury also causing him to miss time in 2025.
At the time of his injury, Eovaldi was leading Texas in wins and innings pitched.
Jung has nine home runs, 35 RBIs and a .294/.361/.441 slash line in 92 games this season. Jung has not played for the Rangers since July 22. He recently completed a rehab assignment with Triple-A Round Rock, including starts at third base in his final two games.
Prior to his rehab stint, Jung has kept up his strength over the past several weeks by completing all daily baseball activities except full-speed running.
Eovaldi and Jung are expected to add a valuable boost to the Rangers in the stretch run. Texas entered play on Saturday three games out of the final American League wild-card spot.
O’Hoppe was acquired from the Los Angeles Angels in July. The 26-year-old appeared in 10 games for the Rangers, going 6-for-17 with one RBI.
Macko has pitched 6 2/3 innings for the Rangers this season, allowing six earned runs, 12 hits and three walks to go along with seven strikeouts.
