Chase Meidroth smacked a three-run home run among his three hits and five RBIs and Brenton Doyle, Randal Grichuk and Munetaka Murakami also homered to power the visiting Chicago White Sox to a 14-11 victory against the Kansas City Royals on Tuesday.

Chicago (81-76) won for the fourth time in five games to remain one game behind the American League Central-leading Cleveland Guardians. The White Sox, who hold the third and final AL wild-card spot, reduced their magic number to earn a playoff berth to three.

Early success against Royals left-hander Daniel Lynch IV propelled the White Sox. Meidroth put Chicago ahead with a two-run single in the first inning and added a three-run homer in the third.

Doyle contributed a solo shot in the second and Grichuk belted a three-run blast in the fourth as part of a 4-for-5 effort. Grichuk had two doubles and fell a triple short of the cycle.

Vinnie Pasquantino hit a ninth-inning grand slam for the Royals, who lost their fifth straight. Pasquantino went 3-for-5 with five RBIs and also was a triple shy of the cycle.

Nick Loftin put Kansas City (67-90) on the board with a solo home run leading off the third inning and added an RBI groundout in the fourth. Salvador Perez contributed an RBI single earlier in the fourth.

Bobby Witt Jr. went 3-for-4 for the Royals and Jac Caglianone had two hits.

White Sox starter Anthony Kay worked four-plus innings, allowing four runs and seven hits with one walk and four strikeouts.

Kay yielded to Noah Schultz with two on and none out in the fifth. Schultz (4-9) allowed just one inherited runner to score while retiring all six Royals he faced with one strikeout.

Lynch (6-6) gave up nine runs and seven hits in four innings. He walked three and struck out two.

Reliever Tony Gonsolin made his Royals debut in his first appearance since June 2025 with the Los Angeles Dodgers. He underwent season-ending surgery on his right, throwing elbow in August of last season.

Gonsolin set down six of the first seven batters he faced before Chicago erupted for five runs in the seventh. Murakami hit a two-run shot to start the rally and Andrew Benintendi punctuated it with a two-run single against Nolan Hoffman.

Doyle had two hits for Chicago.
