Top-seeded Mirra Andreeva of Russia advanced to the Singapore Tennis Open quarterfinals with a 6-2, 6-2 win against Aliaksandra Sasnovich of Belarus on Wednesday.
Andreeva converted six of seven break points in the 72-minute victory. Up next is No. 6 seed Leylah Fernandez of Canada, who took advantage of nine double faults by Alycia Parks in a 6-4, 6-3 win.
No. 5 Maja Chwalinska of Poland needed only 59 minutes to complete a 6-1, 6-0 win against Ukraine’s Oleksandra Oliynykova. Chwalinska’s opponent in the quarterfinals will be No. 4 Elise Mertens of Belgium.
Korea Open in Seoul
No. 3 seed Lanlana Tararudee of Thailand moved into the quarterfinals in Seoul with a 7-6 (5), 6-0 victory against home favorite Sohyun Park.
Tararudee overcame a 5-2 deficit in the opening set to win 11 of the last 12 games. She will next face No. 5 Maya Joint of Australia, who defeated South Korea’s Dayeon Back 6-2, 6-1 in 64 minutes.
Alina Korneeva also advanced to the final eight by saving seven of 10 break points in a 6-2, 3-6, 6-1 triumph against Russian compatriot Darya Astakhova.
