U.S. men’s national team forward Jordan Morris is set to leave the Seattle Sounders this week on a six-month loan to Swansea City in the English Football Championship League, according to several published reports.
Morris, 26, had previously opted to stay with his hometown MLS team, but he has expressed recent interest in joining the growing U.S. presence in Europe. Swansea currently resides in second place in the Championship and is amid a promotion battle trying to regain a place in the Premier League for the first time since 2017-18. The top two teams in the league automatically gain promotion to the EPL.
The Athletic reported Sunday the loan was nearly complete and is expected to be announced “in the coming week.”
Morris has 35 goals and 20 assists in 105 MLS games, winning two MLS Cups with Seattle and placing on the league’s 2020 Best XI.
Earlier this month, while in camp with the USMNT, Morris said simply, “Definitely some conversations are ongoing with Seattle and in Europe a little bit and I think that, for me … If the right offer and the right team comes forward, it’s something that I’d be interested in.” –Field Level Media (@FieldLevelMedia)
