Minnesota Wild defenseman Brock Faber is considered day-to-day after being struck on the side of the head by a shot during Friday’s preseason finale against the Dallas Stars.
Faber did not practice Saturday, though coach John Hynes said the 24-year-old is “doing well” as the Wild continue to monitor his condition.
Minnesota has not ruled Faber out for Thursday’s regular-season opener at Nashville.
“You’ve got to let some things resolve,” Hynes said. “Some of it was precautionary. It’s a delicate area.”
Faber was struck near his left ear by a shot from Dallas forward Sam Steel during the second period Friday. He immediately went down but eventually skated to the bench without assistance.
Faber finished the period before sitting out the third.
Hynes said the Wild expect to have a clearer picture after a 24-to-48-hour evaluation period.
Minnesota recalled defenseman Carson Lambos from Iowa of the American Hockey League on Saturday to add depth while Faber is unavailable.
Without Faber, the Wild practiced with Quinn Hughes alongside Jared Spurgeon, Jonas Brodin paired with Olli Maatta and Daemon Hunt skating with Zach Bogosian.
Minnesota must submit its season-opening roster Monday.
