LYON downed Shopify Rebellion 3-1 on Saturday in the lower-bracket semifinal of the League of Legends’ League Championship Series Summer playoffs.
LYON advanced to the lower-bracket final on Oct. 3 and will face the loser of Sunday’s upper-bracket final between Cloud9 and Team Liquid. The winner of Sunday’s match moves on to the grand final on Oct. 4.
The LCS Summer Split is an eight-team event that began July 25 and will run through the grand final. A seven-week round-robin regular season — in which all teams played each other once in a best-of-three match — set the field for the six-team playoffs.
The top two teams in the regular season — LYON and Team Liquid — advanced to the playoff semifinals, while the third- through sixth-place teams advanced to the quarters. The bottom two teams in the standings were eliminated.
The teams that claim the top three positions in the playoffs will qualify for the $5 million LoL World Championship, scheduled for Oct. 15-Nov. 14. The fourth- and fifth-place teams will receive spots in the $223,000 Demacia Cup Global Invitational, to be held Oct. 3-17 in China.
On Saturday, LYON opened with a win in 36 minutes on red, then triumphed in 27 minutes on blue. Shopify Rebellion stayed alive with a 32-minute victory on red before LYON closed out with a 32-minute win on red.
Kang “Saint” Seong-in of South Korea paced LYON with a 23-6-18 kill-death-assist ratio and was voted MVP of the second and fourth maps.
Teammate Niship “Dhokla” Doshi of the United States and India posted a 13-7-31 K-D-A and was selected MVP of the first map.
American Tristan “Zeyzal” Stidam was MVP of the third map for Shopify Rebellion and finished with a 1-13-20 K-D-A.
