Jason Robertson and Roope Hintz scored shootout goals, Miro Heiskanen and Arttu Hyry scored in regulation, and the Dallas Stars beat the Colorado Avalanche 3-2 in Denver on Wednesday night.

Casey DeSmith had 25 saves through overtime and three more in the shootout for Dallas, which earned a split of the home-and-home set. Colorado took the teams’ Tuesday matchup 3-2.

Robertson scored on the first shot of the shootout, Nazem Kadri tied it in the second round, and Hintz beat Scott Wedgewood in the fourth round. DeSmith stopped Brock Nelson on the Avalanche’s last chance.

Gabriel Landeskog and Nelson had regulation goals, Kadri finished with two assists and Wedgewood turned away 20 shots for Colorado.

Avalanche forwards Nicolas Roy (lower-body injury) and Zachary L’Heureux (upper-body injury) were scratched. Stars forward Wyatt Johnston missed his second straight game due to an illness.

Colorado had two first-period goals taken off the board — the first on a successful offside challenge 1:59 into the game and the second when an official review determined Landeskog had a distinct kicking motion midway through the frame.

The Avalanche finally broke through early in the second period. Sam Malinski stole Tyler Seguin’s clearing attempt at the blue line, sent a pass to Kadri along the left boards, and Kadri’s shot was deflected by Landeskog past DeSmith at 4:55.

The Stars got the equalizer later in the second when Mikko Rantanen sent a pass through the slot to Heiskanen, who roofed a shot over Wedgewood’s right shoulder at 15:03.

Hyry gave Dallas the lead on the penalty kill when he blocked Cale Makar’s shot from the point, gathered the puck and beat Wedgewood on a breakaway at 1:20 of the third. It was the first short-handed goal for Dallas this season and the third allowed by Colorado.

Gavin Brindley nearly tied it a couple of minutes later, but his shot rang off both posts. Nelson did get the equalizer at 8:21 when he knocked in the rebound of Artturi Lehkonen’s shot.
