With a playoff berth locked up, the New England Revolution will turn their attention to seeding as they host the Chicago Fire on Saturday night in Foxborough, Mass.
The Revs (15-10-4, 49 points) enter Saturday’s match against the Fire (14-9-6, 48 points) one point ahead of fourth-place Chicago in the Eastern Conference table.
Dor Turgeman registered a brace, and Josh Wynder also scored for New England in Wednesday night’s 3-2 win over FC Cincinnati. With the win, New England is back in the playoffs for the first time since 2023.
Revolution head coach Marko Mitrovic is wasting no time celebrating the playoff clinch.
“I love to say to the guys that, ‘We dedicate everything to our work. Everything’,” he said. “Everything we do, we’re doing for the games. When the game comes, no matter what the stake on that game, we have to give our best.
“We are doing everything for the games. Otherwise, I feel it will be very disrespectful towards us and towards everything we are doing.”
Mitrovic won’t be on the New England bench Saturday night after receiving a yellow card on Wednesday in Cincinnati.
“I’ll be in the stands, and I know the rest of the coaching staff and rest of the staff will support them, and they’re one amazing group,” Mitrovic said.
“I’m very confident they’re going to handle everything.”
The Revs have lost just once in their last 14 meetings with the Fire, going 4-1-9 over that span.
Saturday marks the second and final meeting of the season between the two clubs. New England edged Chicago 2-1 on Sept. 13. Turgeman also recorded a goal in that game.
Chicago travels to New England to get back in the win column and lock up a playoff spot after its three-match winning streak was snapped in a 3-1 midweek loss to the red-hot Philadelphia Union.
Forward Maren Haile-Selassie, who has 11 goals in 29 matches this season, scored the lone goal in Wednesday’s loss and has tallies in three consecutive contests.
“I think we competed well,” said Fire coach Gregg Berhalter. “We put our best foot forward; we scored the first goal, and we’re in a great position limiting them to not much offensively.”
The Fire need just one point on Saturday to lock up a postseason berth.
Chicago will be without defender Jack Elliott, who will serve the first of a two-game suspension after receiving a second yellow card against the Union.
