The Washington Spirit placed midfielder Hal Hershfelt on the season-ending injury list Thursday with a torn ACL.
Hershfelt, 25, sustained the knee injury in Sunday’s 2-1 road loss against the Kansas City Current.
Currently in third place, the Spirit (16-9-4, 52 points) finish the regular season at home on Sunday against Chicago Stars FC. The NWSL playoffs begin Nov. 6.
Hershfelt appeared in 31 matches this season, contributing the game-winning goal against Seattle Reign FC on May 30 and an assist on Trinity Rodman’s goal at Chicago on Sept. 20.
The Clemson product has earned five caps with the U.S. women’s national team, including two in 2026.
