Daniil Medvedev claimed his third title of 2026 and the 24th of his career with a 7-5, 6-4 win over fellow Russian Andrey Rublev at the Hangzhou Open on Tuesday in China.
The top-seeded Medvedev struck 23 aces and saved both break points he faced in the 93-minute victory over the No. 2 seed at the ATP 250 tournament. Rublev led 5-4 in the opening set before dropping the next five games.
“There is always a tiny bit more on the line,” Medvedev said of facing his friend. “I think I handled it well. I played good in the important moments and I’m really happy with my level.”
Medvedev, 30, improved to 8-2 in his head-to-head series with Rublev. With his 22nd hard-court title, he moved into a tie for 11th place in the Open Era with John McEnroe, Stefan Edberg and Michael Chang.
Chengdu Open
No. 2 seed Alejandro Davidovich Fokina of Spain defeated No. 5 Hubert Hurkacz of Poland 6-4, 7-6 (7) to capture his second title of the 2026 season.
Trailing 6-3 in the tie-break, Davidovich Fokina won six of the final seven points to finish the match in 1 hour and 46 minutes. He saved the only break point he faced against Hurkacz, who hammered 17 aces in the ATP 250 final in China.
Davidovich Fokina had not competed since July due to a back injury. He won his maiden title at Mallorca in June after losing his first five ATP Tour finals.
“After that win in Mallorca, I released all the bad energy that I had in finals,” he said. “I now know how to deal with the pressure in the tight moments. It was a little bit tight in the tie-break, but I knew I would have my chance.”
