Rangers turn second triple play of season

The Texas Rangers surrendered three runs in the sixth inning on Wednesday night, but they avoided further damage by turning a triple play on the Los Angeles Angels in Arlington, Texas.

With Mike Ford on second base and pinch runner Magneuris Sierra on first base, Angels catcher Max Stassi bounced a ground ball to third base.

Rangers rookie Josh Jung gloved the grounder, stepped on third base, threw to Marcus Semien at second, who made the accurate toss to first baseman Nathaniel Lowe, completing Texas’ second triple play of the season.

Texas, which also turned the trick on April 20 against the Seattle Mariners, has accomplished the feat twice in the same season for the first time. The latest triple play was the eighth in franchise history.

The Angels hit into a triple play for the first time since Aug. 16, 2018 — also in Arlington, Texas.

Despite the inning-ending play, the Angels grabbed a 5-2 lead with three runs in the frame.
