Along with record television and attendance records, the WNBA’s star-studded rookie class helped drive record sports betting action for the 2024 regular season.
BetMGM reported a 108 percent increase in WNBA betting this season, with two times as many women engaging in betting on the league.
Indiana’s star rookie Caitlin Clark was again at the forefront of the increased interest, with six of the top eight most-bet games at the book involving the Fever. Five times as many prop bets were placed on Clark than the next most-bet player — fellow rookie Angel Reese of the Chicago Sky.
“Caitlin Clark establishing herself as a star player and veterans like Breanna Stewart and A’ja Wilson continuing to dominate fueled the impressive growth,” BetMGM sports trader Hannah Luther said. “Consistent interest in Clark props and Fever moneylines, and a significant number of bets on the Fever outright make Clark’s influence on the league undeniable.
“We expect these trends to carry over into the postseason, which is shaping up to be highly competitive and exciting.”
Indiana (20-19) closes out its regular-season schedule on Thursday night against the host Washington Mystics.
Clark’s stirring first season has featured a pair of record-breaking feats in each of the Fever’s past two games.
Last Friday, she eclipsed the league’s single-season assist mark with her 317th dime in a 78-74 home loss to the Aces. Against the visiting Dallas Wings on Sunday, Clark tallied a career-high 35 points to give her 761 this season, passing Seimone Augustus (744 with Minnesota in 2006) for the rookie scoring record. Indiana edged Dallas 110-109.
