Patrick Cantlay will miss the WGC-Mexico Championship next week and possibly a few more tournaments because of upcoming surgery to fix a deviated septum, Golf Channel reported.
“It’s hard to sleep,” Cantlay, 27, told Golf Channel on Saturday. “Tough to get to sleep. Tough to stay asleep.”
A deviated septum can block one side of a person’s nose and reduce the flow of air, which results in difficulty breathing, according to the Mayo Clinic.
Cantlay told Golf Channel he expects to be recovered in a few weeks but didn’t know when he’d be back on tour. The Players Championship, to be held March 12-15 at TPC Sawgrass in Florida, is the biggest tournament before the Masters.
Ranked No. 6 in the world, Cantlay entered play Sunday at The Genesis Invitational at 2-under 211 for the tournament, eight strokes behind leaders Adam Scott, Matt Kuchar and Rory McIlroy.
