Gen.G overpowered LYON 3-0 on Wednesday in the quarterfinals of the League of Legends World Championship at Allen, Texas.
The result sends Gen.G to a Saturday semifinal matchup against Invictus Gaming. The other two semifinalists will be determined on Thursday and Friday.
Sixteen teams began play in the $5 million event, with half qualifying for the single-elimination playoff bracket. The knockout stage, consisting of best-of-five matches, is being played in Allen except for the grand final, which will be held at Barclays Center in New York on Nov. 14.
The championship team will receive $1 million.
On Wednesday, Gen.G routed LYON in three consecutive maps, all on blue, prevailing in 32 minutes, 27 minutes and 33 minutes.
Park “Ruler” Jae-hyuk produced a 15-3-21 kill-death-assist ratio for all-South Korean Gen.G, while teammate Jeong “Chovy” Ji-hoon finished at 15-5-23. Poland’s Kacper “Inspired” Sloma compiled an 8-13-9 K-D-A ratio for LYON.
In the last two quarterfinal matches, Dplus will oppose Bilibili Gaming on Thursday, and three-time defending champion T1 will face Karmine Corp on Friday.
