LYON forged a tie atop the standings by sweeping Team Liquid 2-0 on Sunday as Week 6 concluded in the League Championship Series Summer Split.
Team Liquid, which could have secured first place, instead suffered their first loss in six outings, thanks to LYON (5-1), with one week remaining before the playoffs. In Sunday’s other match, Cloud9 held off Shopify Rebellion 2-1.
The LCS Summer Split is an eight-team event that began July 25 and will run through the finals in October. The seven-week round-robin regular season — in which all teams play each other once in a best-of-three match — will set the field for the six-team playoffs.
The top two teams in the regular season will advance to the playoff semifinals, while the third- through sixth-place teams will advance to the quarters. The bottom two teams in the standings are eliminated.
The playoffs, which run Sept. 12 through Oct. 4, are best-of-five and double elimination. The top three teams will advance to the World Championship, played in New York, Los Angeles and Allen, Texas, from Oct. 15 through Nov. 14.
LYON swept Team Liquid, winning in 30 and 27 minutes.
South Korea’s Kim “Berserker” Min-cheol topped LYON with a 12/3/18 kill/death/assist ratio, while Australian Jonah “Isles” Rosario contributed a match-high 32 assists.
South Korea’s Jo “CoreJJ” Yong-in had a team-high 12 assists for Team Liquid.
Cloud9 opened with a win in 30 minutes before Shopify Rebellion drew level with a 36-minute victory. Cloud9 closed out the match with a 36-minute win.
Lee “Loki” Sang-min paced Cloud9 with a 17/4/18 kill/death/assist ratio, while fellow South Korean Park “Thanatos” Seung-gyu posted a 3/4/26 K/D/A and Canadian Philippe “Vulcan” Laflamme had 36 assists.
South Korea’s Ju “Bvoy” Yeong-hoon topped Shopify Rebellion with eight kills.
