esports fans

PARIVISION and Team Spirit swept their matches Monday to be the first two teams to advance out of the group stage of the PGL Wallachia Season 4 event in Bucharest, Romania.

In a pair of matches pitting 2-0 teams against one another, PARIVISION defeated Team Falcons 2-0 and Team Spirit did the same to Aurora Gaming. Now with three group-stage wins, those teams will compete in the playoff stage.

The $1 million Dota tournament features 16 teams in a modified Swiss group stage format and double-elimination playoffs through April 27.

All matches in the group stage from Saturday to Wednesday are best-of-three. The top eight teams advance to the playoffs, and the bottom eight are eliminated. The playoffs are Thursday through Sunday, with all matches best-of-three except for the grand final, which is best-of-five.

On Monday, PARIVISION needed just 24 minutes and 34 minutes to beat Team Falcons, playing both maps on green. Team Spirit topped Aurora in 46 minutes on green and 40 minutes on red.

The two 0-2 matches also determined the first two teams to be eliminated from the tournament. NAVI Junior swept Talon Esports (34 minutes on green, 37 minutes on red) and HEROIC rallied past AVULUS — dropping a 54-minute match on red before winning in 53 and 52 minutes on green. Talon and AVULUS went 0-3 in the group stage and won’t move on.

In the four 1-1 matches, BetBoom Team blanked Edge 2-0; Team Tidebound defeated Nigma Galaxy 2-0; Team Liquid came back to beat Xtreme Gaming 2-1; and Tundra Esports edged Shopify Rebellion 2-1. The four winning teams will proceed to the Round 4 2-1 matches, and the four losers will face elimination in the Round 4 1-2 matches.
