Surge, Cloud9, Ultra earn 3-2 wins at CDL Stage 3 qualifying

The Vancouver Surge moved into second place in the Call of Duty League Stage 3 qualifiers with their third win on Sunday.

Vancouver rallied from a 2-0 hole to defeat the Carolina Royal Ravens 3-2. Cloud9 New York did the same to stun the Minnesota Rokkr 3-2, while the Toronto Ultra handed the Los Angeles Thieves their first loss of qualifying, also by a 3-2 scoreline.

The Stage 3 Major qualifying round has the league’s 12 teams playing five qualifying matches apiece through April 20 to determine seeding for the Stage 3 Major playoffs, slated for April 24-27 in Boca Raton, Fla.

On Sunday, Vancouver fell behind as Carolina prevailed 250-176 on Hacienda Hardpoint and 6-3 on Hacienda Search & Destroy. The Surge got on the board with a 3-1 result on Protocol Control and further staved off defeat 250-104 on Skyline Hardpoint. They sealed the comeback with a 6-2 victory on Dealership Search & Destroy.

Minnesota opened its match against New York with a 250-228 win on Skyline Hardpoint and a 6-4 edge on Rewind Search & Destroy. Cloud9 blanked the Rokkr 3-0 on Protocol Control, then pulled out a narrow 250-246 win on Red Card Hardpoint to force a fifth map. On Hacienda Search & Destroy, New York triumphed 6-4.

Toronto did not fall behind 2-0 like the others. The Ultra opened with a 250-219 victory on Hacienda Hardpoint, but the Thieves countered 6-4 on Hacienda Search & Destroy and 3-2 on Vault Control. Toronto pulled out a 250-215 result on Skyline Hardpoint and iced the match by taking Dealership Search & Destroy 6-4.

The third and final week of qualifying will begin Friday with three matches:
–Toronto Ultra vs. Miami Heretics
–Boston Breach vs. Cloud9 New York
–Los Angeles Guerrillas M8 vs. Los Angeles Thieves
