Team Liquid dumps Cloud9 in LCS Summer Split

Team Liquid upset Cloud9 in the League Championship Series Summer Split on Thursday, leaving Evil Geniuses alone in first place.

After Liquid (5-3) got past Cloud9 (6-2), Evil Geniuses (7-1) earned a win over Immortals (2-6).

The 10 teams in the top North American League of Legends circuit will play every other team twice in the group phase, which runs through July 21. All group-stage matches will consist of a single map.

The first- and second-place teams will head to the upper-bracket semifinals for the double-elimination playoffs. The third- through sixth-place teams will open the playoffs in the upper-bracket quarterfinals. The seventh- and eighth-place teams will enter the postseason in the lower bracket, while the ninth- and 10th-place teams will be eliminated.

The playoffs will feature best-of-five matches. The top three finishers will earn berths in the League of Legends World Championship, to be played in South Korea from Oct. 10 to Nov. 19. The fourth-place finisher will head to a wild-card qualifier with a chance to land a spot at the World Championship.

On Thursday, Liquid beat Cloud9 in 28 minutes on blue thanks to a 6-2-9 kill-death-assist ratio from South Korea’s Hong “Pyosik” Chang-hyeon. South Korea’s Jang “EMENES” Min-soo posted a 2-0-2 K-D-A ratio for Cloud9.

Evil Geniuses worked 27 minutes on blue to top Immortals. Canada’s Joseph Joon “jojopyun” Pyun led Evil Geniuses with an 8-1-5 K-D-A ratio. The United States’ Edward “Tactical” Ra wound up at 3-5-1 for Immortals.

FlyQuest, playing on red, beat NRG in 37 minutes. South Korea’s Lee “VicLa” Dae-kwang produced a 3-1-0 K-D-A ratio for FlyQuest, while Australia’s Ian Victor “FBI” Huang produced a 2-1-1 K-D-A ratio.

Dignitas dumped TSM in 32 minutes on blue as Denmark’s Lucas “Santorin” Tao Kilmer Larsen finished at 6-0-8. Canada’s Jason “WildTurtle” Tran had a 4-6-1 K-D-A ratio for TSM.

Golden Guardians, playing on red, emerged with a 40-minute victory over 100 Thieves. The United States’ Trevor “Stixxay” Hayes produced a 6-1-3 K-D-A ratio for Golden Guardians, and another U.S. player, Yiliang “Doublelift” Peng, notched a 4-3-2 K-D-A ratio for 100 Thieves.

–TSM vs. 100 Thieves
