Team Liquid swept FlyQuest 3-0 on Sunday to advance to the upper-bracket final of the League of Legends’ League Championship Series Summer playoffs.
Cloud9, which beat LYON 3-1 in the other upper-bracket semifinal on Saturday, meets Team Liquid in the bracket final on Sept. 27. The winner earns a berth in the grand final on Oct. 4. The loser falls to the lower-bracket final on Oct. 3 with a chance to make the grand final.
The LCS Summer Split is an eight-team event that began July 25 and will run through the finals in October. A seven-week round-robin regular season — in which all teams played each other once in a best-of-three match — set the field for the six-team playoffs.
The top two teams in the regular season — LYON and Team Liquid — advanced to the playoff semifinals, while the third- through sixth-place teams advanced to the quarters. The bottom two teams in the standings were eliminated.
The teams that claim the top three positions in the playoffs will advance to the $5 million LoL World Championship, scheduled for Oct. 15-Nov. 14. The fourth- and fifth-place teams will receive spots in the $223,000 Demacia Cup Global Invitational, to be held Oct. 3-17 in China.
Team Liquid won the first two maps on Sunday in 34 and 33 minutes on blue and the third map in 43 minutes on red.
Team Liquid’s Brandon Joel “Josedeodo” Villegas of Argentina was the MVP of the first two maps, and teammate Jo “CoreJJ” Yong-in of South Korea was MVP of the third map.
For the overall match, “Josedeodo” posted an 11-5-22 kill-death-assist differential, while “CoreJJ” had a 1-0-41 K-D-A.
FlyQuest dropped to the lower-bracket quarterfinal against Shopify Rebellion on Friday. The winner faces LYON in the lower-bracket semifinal on Saturday.
