Gonzaga’s NCAA Tournament odds continue to shorten

Drew Timme

Two convincing victories to start the NCAA Tournament has led to Gonzaga’s odds of winning the school’s first title continuing to shorten.

The Bulldogs were installed as +200 favorites before the start of the tournament by several oddsmakers. Those odds have shortened to +150 at DraftKings and +155 at FanDuel ahead of the Sweet 16.

Gonzaga is being backed by 39 percent of the handle and 30 percent of the outright tournament winner bets at FanDuel. The next closest team in both markets is Michigan (+700) at 18 and 19 percent. Baylor is being backed by 14 and 13 percent, respectfully, with +400 odds of winning the title.

The favorites’ odds have continued to shorten in large part due to the slew of upsets that has eliminated the likes of No. 1 seed Illinois and No. 2 seeds Iowa and Ohio State.

Gonzaga, the top seed in the West region, is a 13-point favorite by FanDuel against Creighton in the Sweet 16. Should the Bulldogs get by the Bluejays, they would next face either No. 6 seeded Southern Cal or No. 7 Oregon.

The Trojans upset No. 3 Kansas while the Ducks ousted Iowa, helping clear Gonzaga’s path to the Final Four.

That’s where Gonzaga and Michigan could be on a collision course. The Wolverines are 2.5-point favorites against Florida State, the fourth seed in the East. No. 2 seed Alabama is also alive in the East, and is being backed by seven percent of the handle and 10 percent of the tournament winner bets at +1000.

Gonzaga is just the fifth team — and the first since Kentucky in 2014-15 — to enter the NCAA Tournament undefeated since Indiana completed the last perfect championship season in 1975-76.

The Bulldogs also have a streak of 25 consecutive double-digit victories.
