‘Canes fire OC Dean Enos after shutout bowl loss

The Miami Hurricanes fired offensive coordinator Dan Enos on Friday, one day after the team was shut out by Louisiana Tech in the Independence Bowl.

The Hurricanes wrapped up a 6-7 season with a 14-0 loss on Thursday night, marking the first shutout in the 44-game history of the Independence Bowl. Miami posted just 227 yards of offense.

Miami, which averaged 25.7 points per game this season, scored 20 points or fewer in six of 13 contests.

Enos played quarterback for Michigan State from 1987-90 and served as Central Michigan’s head coach from 2010-14. The 51-year-old spent the next three years as Arkansas’ offensive coordinator before joining Nick Saban’s staff at Alabama last season as quarterbacks coach.

More changes on the way

The departure of Enos could be just the first for Miami. Athletic director Blake James tweeted after the game that changes are needed but gave a vote of confidence to head coach Manny Diaz.

“Tonight’s game was a disappointing finish to a season that fell well below the high standards of The University of Miami football program,” he wrote.
“Manny Diaz is the right leader for our program but clearly changes are necessary and expected. Manny is in the process of making a full assessment of the football program, including coaches and staff. I remain committed to the young men in our locker room and I am excited to welcome our new recruits to the U Family. We will continue to tirelessly provide the resources needed to get this program back to competing for ACC and national championships.”

The Hurricanes have just one 10-win season since 2003, when they finished 11-2.
