The New York Knicks plan to hire agent Leon Rose as president of basketball operations, ESPN reported Thursday, citing league sources.
Rose would replace Steve Mills, who was fired on Tuesday.
Rose’s clients at CAA include NBA stars Joel Embiid, Chris Paul, Devin Booker and Carmelo Anthony. His previous clients included LeBron James and Allen Iverson.
According to ESPN, the deal with Rose won’t be finalized “anytime soon.” Formal negotiations will begin after Thursday’s NBA trade deadline. The Knicks (15-36) have the third-worst record in the Eastern Conference heading into Thursday night’s home game against the Orlando Magic.
New York hasn’t been to the playoffs since 2012-13, when the Knicks made it past the first round for the first time since 1999-2000.
