Cydney Clanton, Jasmine Suwannapura tied for lead at team event

Cydney Clanton and Jasmine Suwannapura combined to shoot their third consecutive 5-under-par 65 Friday to grab a share of first place in the Dow Great Lakes Bay Invitational, an LPGA Tour team event at Midland Country Club in Midland, Mich.
Clanton, of the U.S., and Thailand's Suwannapura finished with five birdies, including two to finish their day, and will enter Saturday's fourth round at 195, tied with Pajaree Anannarukarn of Thailand and Aditi Ashok of India.
"We've played good, and I think again today we stayed very patient because we didn't have many good looks until the very end, and then Jasmine made some clutch putts on 17 and 18," said Clanton, who also held the 54-hole lead with Suwannapura at the inaugural event in 2019 en route to their victory. "And so we stayed really patient again, so I think that was another good key today."
"I think we stayed pretty patient. I don't think just because we win two years ago, it doesn't mean that the golf course was easy. Doesn't mean that we're going to be able to play some good golf," Suwannapura said. "It's just golf. Like we just stay patient and find opportunities for ourselves to make birdies and have fun with each other."
Anannarukarn and Ashok combined to shoot 67, with three birdies, after firing a 63 on Thursday.
Friday's round was alternate shot, but the format will return to best ball on Saturday.
Alone in third place are Carlota Ciganda of Spain and Mel Reid of the United Kingdom, who shot 4-under and are one shot behind the leaders. They had a bogey on their second hole but finished with five birdies on the day, including four in six holes.
Three teams were another shot back (13 under) in a tie for fourth place.
Among them were the second-round leaders, Ariya and Moriya Jutanugarn of Thailand, who finished at plus-1 71 on Friday. Their day included only two birdies and three bogeys, and the bogeys came in a four-hole stretch to conclude the front nine.
Also at 13-under are A Lim Kim of South Korea and Yealimi Noh of the United States, who shot a 4-under 66, and the South Korea pairing of Mi Jung Hur and Jeongeun Lee6 (2-under 68).
