MLB roundup: Dodgers win season-high 10th straight game

Max Muncy, Chris Taylor and Joey Gallo hit home runs Wednesday and the Los Angeles Dodgers extended their season-best winning streak to 10 games with an 8-5 victory over the visiting Minnesota Twins.

Trea Turner and Will Smith also had RBI hits as the Dodgers improved to 13-4 in interleague play this season. Los Angeles also improved to 32-5 since June 29 while pushing their major-league-best record to 77-33.

Jorge Polanco and Gary Sanchez hit home runs for the Twins, who lost all four games to the Dodgers this season. Luis Arraez had three hits for Minnesota.

Gallo's pinch-hit home run in the seventh inning, a three-run shot, gave the Dodgers some breathing room at 8-4. It was his 13th homer of the season and first since joining the Dodgers at the trade deadline.

Mets 10, Reds 2

Daniel Vogelbach drove in three runs and Francisco Lindor had two hits, three runs and two RBIs as host New York crushed Cincinnati to sweep the three-game series.

Tyler Naquin homered for the Mets, Pete Alonso had three hits and an RBI, and Jeff McNeil drove in two runs. The Mets scored in five of the first six innings as they won their sixth straight game and 15th of their past 17.

Mets right-hander Taijuan Walker (10-3), who saw a personal six-game winning streak stopped in his last start, gave up two runs on five hits and three walks with five strikeouts in six innings.

Brewers 4, Rays 3 (10 innings)

Rowdy Tellez hit a game-tying home run to lead off the ninth inning and Willy Adames had a walk-off RBI single in the 10th to lift Milwaukee over visiting Tampa Bay in the finale of a two-game series.

Devin Williams (3-2) started the 10th for the Brewers with Francisco Mejia on second base. Taylor Walls hit a hard ground ball to Tellez at first and he threw across the diamond to get Mejia at third for the first out. Walls was then thrown out trying to steal before Williams made the final out.

Ryan Thompson (3-3) began the 10th with Tyrone Taylor on second. Christian Yelich was intentionally walked before Adames came through with his winning hit. Yu Chang and Randy Arozarena homered for the Rays.

Cubs 4, Nationals 2

Nico Hoerner's solo home run opened the door to a four-run seventh inning as Chicago rallied past visiting Washington.

With the Cubs down 2-0 in the seventh, Hoerner drove a Josiah Gray pitch into the left-field seats to open the frame. Nick Madrigal eventually tied the game with a single off ex-Cub Steve Cishek (1-3), and Chicago went ahead on Rafael Ortega's sacrifice fly. Chicago starter Justin Steele yielded two runs on eight hits, striking out nine without a walk over six innings.

Gray allowed his major league-leading 29th homer and two runs total. He gave up seven hits in 6 1/3 innings for the Nationals while striking out five without a walk. Rookie Joey Meneses homered in his third consecutive game.

Mariners 4, Yankees 3

Carlos Santana hit a two-run home run with one out in the seventh inning as Seattle overcame Aaron Judge's major league-leading 45th home run of the season to defeat visiting New York.

New York's Nestor Cortes and Seattle's Robbie Ray were locked in a scoreless draw through five innings before Sam Haggerty broke up Cortes' no-hit bid with a homer in the sixth. Kyle Higashioka responded for the Yankees with a two-run shot off Ray in the seventh. Judge gave the Yankees a 3-1 lead before Santana hit his go-ahead home run off Albert Abreu (2-2).

Cortes pitched six-plus innings and allowed three runs on three hits. He walked one and struck out 10. Ray went 6 1/3 innings and gave up two runs on three hits, with five walks and seven strikeouts.

Cardinals 9, Rockies 5

Albert Pujols homered and finished with four hits, Nolan Arenado also went deep among his three hits, and St. Louis beat Colorado in Denver.

Paul DeJong had four hits, Lars Nootbaar had two triples and Yadier Molina finished with two hits for St. Louis. Starter Jose Quintana (4-5) went six innings, giving up two runs on seven hits and fanned six to pick up the win.

Brendan Rodgers had three hits and Jose Iglesias, Yonathan Daza and Elehuris Montero had two hits each for the Rockies. Iglesias drove in two runs as well. Colorado starter Kyle Freeland (7-8) allowed six runs on 10 hits and struck out just one in 4 1/3 innings.

Guardians 3, Tigers 2

Steven Kwan and Andres Gimenez each had two hits and scored a run as Cleveland won its fourth straight by edging host Detroit.

Will Benson notched his first major league RBI, while Cleveland pitchers recorded 14 strikeouts. Bryan Shaw (5-2) pitched an inning of scoreless relief and was credited with the win. Cleveland starter Aaron Civale, who was making his first start since July 13, gave up two runs and three hits in four innings.

Riley Greene had two hits and scored a run for Detroit. Kerry Carpenter went 0-for-4 and struck out three times in his major league debut.

Rangers 8, Astros 4 (10 innings)

Leody Taveras delivered a bases-clearing double in the top of the 10th inning, the decisive blow in a five-run frame that keyed Texas' win over Houston.

Taveras finished 2-for-4 with a career-high five RBIs. Marcus Semien and Corey Seager (3-for-5, run) produced RBIs prior to Taveras' critical extra-base hit. Texas rookie right-hander Glenn Otto allowed two runs on four hits and four walks with five strikeouts over five innings.

Astros right-hander Justin Verlander allowed three runs on five hits and one walk with seven strikeouts over six innings. The Rangers seized a 3-2 lead against Verlander in the sixth inning, marking the first time in seven weeks that he allowed more than two runs in a start.

Angels 5, Athletics 4 (12 innings)

Magneuris Sierra doubled home automatic runner Steven Duggar with one out in the 12th inning and Los Angeles held on to complete a three-game sweep of host Oakland with a victory.

In a game that featured a pair of three-run hits -- a sixth-inning home run by Luis Rengifo and a seventh-inning double by Tony Kemp -- both teams scored once in the 10th before Sierra lashed his double to right field off the Athletics' seventh pitcher, Austin Pruitt (0-1), as the second batter of the 12th.

Jaime Barria (2-2) pitched the final three innings to get the win, including retiring the A's in order in the bottom of the 12th after Elvis Andrus had been placed on second base to start the inning.

Padres 13, Giants 7

San Diego, paced by a three-run home run by Brandon Drury and a two-run homer by Austin Nola, scored seven times with two outs in sixth inning to score a victory over visiting San Francisco in the rubber match of a three-game series.

The Giants scored three runs in the top of the sixth to take a 7-6 lead and San Francisco reliever Yunior Marte retired the first two Padres he faced in the bottom of the inning. The Padres then reeled off seven straight hits, ending with Nola's homer.

Robert Suarez (3-1) returned from the injured list to pitch 1 2/3 scoreless innings and pick up the win. Marte (0-1) allowed five runs (four earned) on five hits in an inning.

Phillies 4, Marlins 3

J.T. Realmuto capped a three-run rally in the eighth inning with a tie-breaking RBI single as Philadelphia came back to beat visiting Miami for their seventh straight victory.

Andrew Bellatti (3-3) allowed one run in the top of the eighth before Seranthony Dominguez retired the Marlins in order in the ninth for his eighth save.

Schwarber had three hits and two RBIs for Philadelphia, which won its sixth straight against Miami and improved to 14 games over .500 for the first time since Aug. 17, 2018.

Braves 8, Red Sox 4

Marcell Ozuna belted a three-run homer and top prospect Vaughn Grissom added a two-run shot in his major league debut, lifting visiting Atlanta over Boston.

Eddie Rosario ripped an RBI double, Dansby Swanson had a run-scoring single and Ozuna added a sacrifice fly to help the Braves complete a two-game sweep over the Red Sox. Kyle Wright (14-5) picked up the win after allowing one run on six hits and striking out five in six innings.

Tommy Pham crushed a three-run homer and Bobby Dalbec had two hits and two runs for the Red Sox, who have lost four in a row and six of their last seven games.

Royals 8, White Sox 3

MJ Melendez hit a home run in the seventh inning as host Kansas City defeated Chicago in the third game of a four-game series.

Melendez finished 3-for-4 with two RBIs and two runs. He gave the Royals a 4-3 lead with his 14th home run, a solo shot into the bullpen in right. The Royals added four runs in the eighth on a two-run single by Kyle Isbel and RBI singles by Melendez and Salvador Perez.

Josh Staumont (3-1) pitched a perfect seventh for the victory. Jake Diekman (5-2) took the loss for the White Sox, who scored all their runs in the sixth.

Pirates 6, Diamondbacks 4

Ben Gamel drove in three runs and Kevin Newman had three hits as Pittsburgh notched a victory over Arizona in Phoenix.

Rodolfo Castro added two hits and Tucupita Marcano and Greg Allen each drove in a run as the Pirates defeated Arizona after losing the first two contests of the four-game set. Winning pitcher Mitch Keller (4-8) gave up three runs and five hits over 5 1/3 innings.

Alek Thomas had two hits and scored twice for the Diamondbacks, who had won 21 of their previous 27 contests against Pittsburgh. Madison Bumgarner (6-11) allowed five runs and eight hits over six innings. He struck out eight and walked two.
