Timberwolves rally past Magic to claim seventh straight win

Anthony Edwards scored 28 points on 9-for-19 shooting as the Minnesota Timberwolves held on for a 118-111 win over the Orlando Magic on Friday night in Minneapolis.

Julius Randle added 22 points and seven rebounds for Minnesota, which won its seventh game in a row. Donte DiVincenzo contributed 14 points off the bench.

Paolo Banchero scored 43 points and grabbed 10 rebounds to lead Orlando. Caleb Houstan scored 18 points and made 6 of 8 shots from 3-point range while Franz Wagner scored 16.

The Timberwolves shot 52.5 percent (42 of 80) from the field and 42.4 percent (14 of 33) from 3-point range. The Magic shot 44.9 percent (40 of 89) overall and 42.9 percent (12 of 28) from long distance.

Minnesota outscored Orlando 40-24 in the fourth quarter to secure the victory.

The Magic led 87-78 at the end of the third quarter. Wagner made a driving layup to put the Magic on top by nine points with three seconds to go in the session.

The Timberwolves responded with a 13-3 run. Naz Reid made a driving layup to put Minnesota on top 91-90 with 8:23 remaining.

DiVincenzo made back-to-back shots to increase the Timberwolves’ lead to 95-90 with 7:09 left.

Banchero made a shot to even the score at 98-all with 3:32 to play.

Edwards answered with a 3-pointer on the next possession to put the Timberwolves ahead 101-98. Edwards followed with a driving layup, Randle made a dunk and Jaden McDaniels added a dunk to make it 107-98 with 1:52 to go.

Orlando trailed the rest of the way.

Minnesota led 62-58 at the half.

DiVincenzo drained a 3-pointer to put the Timberwolves on top 62-55 with 1:13 remaining in the first half.

Houstan answered with a 3-pointer of his own to pull the Magic within four points before the break. Wagner assisted on Houstan’s deep shot with 15.1 seconds to go.
