The Houston Dynamo signed free agent defensive midfielder Diadie Samassekou on Saturday.

The 29-year-old Mali native is signed through 2026 with club options for 2027-28. He will occupy an international roster slot.

Samassekou spent most his career with Austria’s Red Bull Salzburg (2016-19) and Germany’s TSG 1899 Hoffenheim (2019-25). He was on loan with Greece’s Olympiacos in 2022-23 and Spain’s Cadiz in 2024.

“Diadie brings a proven track record of winning at the highest levels, having played pivotal roles on top European clubs in both domestic and continental competitions,” said Dynamo president of Ssoccer Pat Onstad. “His experience, leadership and championship mentality will strengthen our midfield and elevate our roster as we push for a third consecutive playoff berth. We are thrilled to welcome Diadie and his family to Houston and cannot wait to see the impact he will make on the pitch.”

Samassekou tallied two goals and six assists in 134 appearances with Red Bull Salzburg and added two goals and five assists in 97 appearances for Hoffenheim.
