Milan Momcilovic scored 13 of his 20 points after halftime as No. 10 Iowa State poured it on in the second half, running away with an 81-58 win over No. 1 Purdue on Saturday afternoon in West Lafayette, Ind.

Momcilovic recorded his third straight 20-point game and fifth of the season on 8-of-17 shooting.

Blake Buchanan added 12 points and nine rebounds, Killyan Toure scored 13 points and Joshua Jefferson paired 11 points with four assists.

The Cyclones (9-0) outscored Purdue 46-27 in the second half, shooting 54.1% for the game and 47.8% from 3-point range (11-of-23). Momcilovic, Toure and Jefferson each made three 3-pointers.

It was Iowa State’s fifth career win over the AP No. 1 ranked team, three of which have come in the last four seasons.

The Boilermakers (8-1) were led by 11 points and eight assists by Braden Smith, who also committed six turnovers. Oscar Cluff collected 10 points and six boards and Daniel Jacobsen scored 10 points.

Purdue made just 4 of 18 3-pointers (22.2%). The loss snapped its 36-game non-conference home winning streak which dated back to 2019.

Iowa State entered intermission with a 35-31 lead after a contested first half in which neither team had a run larger than six points or held a lead larger than six points.

Iowa State held a 20-17 advantage on the boards and blocked five shots to overcome nine first-half turnovers.

The Cyclones created immediate separation to begin the second half, starting with a 13-2 run, capped off by three consecutive 3-pointers, in less than three minutes’ time to open up a 48-33 lead with 17:17 left.

Purdue’s offense came to life a bit after that run, but the Boilermakers were not able to stifle the Cyclones’ high-powered offense. Iowa State started the second half 11-of-13 shooting and 4-of-4 from 3-point range to open up a 61-43 lead with 12:08 left.

That lead grew as large as 27 points with 2:37 left and never dropped below 20 points once it reached that mark just past the halfway point of the half.
