The NBA on Sunday announced suspensions for Pelicans guard Jose Alvarado and Phoenix center Mark Williams following their altercation in the Suns’ 123-114 win in New Orleans Saturday night.
Alvarado received a two-game suspension without pay, while Williams received one game without pay.
The altercation occurred after tensions had built over the course of the game.
With 2:06 left in the third quarter Saturday, Alvarado committed a foul on Williams, who retaliated by shoving Alvarado in the back. Alvarado responded by shoving and throwing a punch, with Williams throwing punches as well.
Both players were handed technical fouls and ejections.
Williams will now sit out the Suns’ Dec. 29 game at the Washington Wizards. Alvarado is scheduled to miss the Pelicans’ Dec. 29 and 31 contests, against the New York Knicks and Chicago Bulls, respectively.
