Tarris Reed Jr. scored 15 points and had 11 rebounds as No. 3 UConn overcame a shaky shooting performance to extend its winning streak to 14 games with a 64-62 victory over Georgetown in Washington, D.C., on Saturday afternoon.

Silas Demary Jr. scored 12 points, Braylon Mullins added 11 and Solo Ball had 10 as UConn (18-1, 8-0 Big East) is off to its best start in conference play since the 1998-99 season despite shooting 36.2% from the field.

The win was UConn’s 11th straight over Georgetown, with each victory coming since the Huskies rejoined the Big East ahead of the 2020-21 season. UConn’s winning streak over the Hoyas matches a program best, which was set from Jan. 17, 1998, to Jan. 14, 2006, under Basketball Hall of Fame coach Jim Calhoun.

Vince Iwuchukwu had 12 points and a career-high 14 rebounds as Georgetown (9-9, 1-6) has lost five straight games overall and six in a row in league play. KJ Lewis added 12 points while Malik Mack had 11 and Jeremiah Williams hit for 10 off the bench. Georgetown has lost 24 straight games against AP Top 25 opponents dating to the 2021 NCAA Tournament.

Ball’s driving floater in the lane dropped in the basket as the shot clock expired to give UConn a 62-55 lead with 58.2 seconds remaining.

Georgetown took possession down 63-60 with 32 seconds left after UConn missed 3 of 4 free throws, but Lewis missed a 3-pointer from the top of the key with 14 seconds remaining.

Mullins split a pair from the line before an Iwuchukwu dunk ended the game. UConn finished 2 of 8 down the stretch and 17 of 24 for the game from the line.

UConn led 32-28 at the half after shooting 36.4% from the field and just 23.1% from 3-point range.

The Hoyas led 36-32 while scoring the first eight points of the second half, part of a 12-0 run from the end of the first half. During that span UConn missed 10 consecutive field goals.

Reed scored 11 of the first 13 points for the Huskies in the game as UConn improved to 14-0 when he plays. It was Reed’s third double-double of the season.
