Boston Scott, a short and powerful running back who played six seasons for the Philadelphia Eagles, announced his retirement on Wednesday afternoon on social media.

Scott, 30, appeared in 75 regular-season games (12 starts) for the Eagles from 2018-23 and has been out of the NFL since early in the 2024 season. Listed at 5-foot-6 and 204 pounds, Scott had 302 rushing attempts for 1,295 yards and 16 touchdowns. He also caught 71 passes for 566 yards with one touchdown.

“I’m thankful for everything the game has given me and my family,” Scott said on his X account. “I’m thankful for the coaches, teammates, and staff throughout my career that believed in me even when it wasn’t popular.

“Looking back at my career, I’m just in awe of what God was able to accomplish, form a Walk-on who almost had to drop out of college to many years at the highest level, a lot of it doesn’t make sense and I believe that’s the point.”

Scott also returned 66 kickoffs for a 22.8-yard average, and six punts for a total of 43 yards.

New Orleans selected Scott in the sixth round of the 2018 NFL Draft out of Louisiana Tech. He was released at the end of training camp and signed to the team’s practice squad in September 2018, then released in December and signed the same day by the Eagles.

Scott was with the Eagles through 2023 and spent time in the Los Angeles Rams and Pittsburgh Steelers organizations leading up to the 2024 season. The Steelers placed him on practice squad injured reserve in September 2024 before releasing him later that month.
