Adjustments coming as Inter Miami visit Toronto FC

Inter Miami will look to rebound from a stunning loss when they visit Toronto FC on Saturday afternoon.

The Herons (5-2-4, 19 points) squandered a three-goal lead in a 4-3 home loss to rival Orlando City last Saturday.

Miami interim head coach Guillermo Hoyos said there will be changes made following the setback, but they’ll be made in private.

“I’m honest, I’m a hard worker and (one) result doesn’t change my mind, I’ll tell that to everyone,” Hoyos said. “I’m proud of my team, but things need to be adjusted behind closed doors.”

Luis Suarez said the Herons have to put last week’s collapse behind them.

“There are games that go well and others that don’t,” Suarez said. “We’ll be prepared for the difficult moments we go through and work to continue improving.”

Superstar Lionel Messi leads Inter Miami with eight goals while contributing two assists in 10 MLS games. Toronto coach Robin Fraser said the 38-year-old Argentine is the “best to ever play the game.”

“You have to pay attention to him, know where he is and defend him really well,” Fraser said. “And then you need a little luck. I think we can create our own luck when we do have the ball with some of the things we do.”

Toronto (3-3-5, 14 points) recorded a 1-1 draw against the Western Conference-leading San Jose Earthquakes last Saturday. Daniel Salloi scored the lone goal for Toronto in the match’s second minute.

After 10 seasons with Sporting Kansas City, Toronto acquired Salloi for a guaranteed $300,000 in General Allocation Money in February.

The 29-year-old Hungarian has tallied a team-high four goals while also notching three assists.

“Daniel has been great for us, an incredible pickup,” Fraser said. “Not just as a player, but as a person and a teammate.”

Toronto has tied four of its last six league matches while posting a 1-1-4 mark over that span, and Fraser wants another quick start against Miami.

“It’s aggressive with the ball and aggressive without the ball,” Fraser said. “Intensity has probably been the calling card of this team.”
