Jose Soriano retired 20 consecutive batters, Jo Adell homered twice with a double and the visiting Los Angeles Angels defeated the Toronto Blue Jays 6-1 on Sunday afternoon.

Soriano (6-2) allowed one run, five hits and one walk over 7 2/3 innings while striking out seven. Oswald Peraza added a two-run homer and Vaughn Grissom contributed a two-run double for the Angels, who salvaged the finale of the three-game series.

Daulton Varsho went 2-for-4 and scored the lone run for the Blue Jays, who claimed the season series 4-2.

Toronto took the lead in the first. Varsho hit an infield single off Soriano’s foot, took second on a groundout and scored on Kazuma Okamoto’s double to left. Okamoto extended his hitting streak to nine games.

Toronto opener Spencer Miles allowed two hits in three scoreless innings and Tommy Nance followed with a perfect fourth.

Toronto sent out Eric Lauer (1-5) for the fifth and he began by walking Nolan Schanuel. Peraza followed by smashing a 2-0 cutter 392 feet to left for a 2-1 lead.

Zach Neto doubled with two out to keep the inning going. Mike Trout walked before Grissom stroked a two-run double to center to give the Angels a 4-1 lead after they had scored only one run in the first 22 innings of the series.

Adell homered to right with one out in the sixth to push the lead to 5-1.

Soriano retired 20 consecutive batters before Myles Straw legged out an infield hit to third with one out in the eighth.

Ernie Clement looped a two-out single to left and Varsho beat out an infield single to second to load the bases. Sam Bachman replaced Soriano and retired Vladimir Guerrero Jr. on a fielder’s choice to third.

Lauer retired eight in a row after Adell’s homer, but Adell got him again in the ninth with a 449-foot blast to left-center.

Lauer allowed six runs, five hits and two walks with four strikeouts in five innings.

Toronto right fielder Addison Barger was a late scratch Sunday because of a sore elbow. He returned from a sprained ankle on Saturday.
