James Wood finished a triple short of the cycle, Miles Mikolas pitched seven scoreless innings and the Nationals beat the Seattle Mariners 10-1 in Washington on Sunday.

Wood smacked his 20th home run of the season and provided an RBI double, while Keibert Ruiz had three hits including a solo home run for Washington, which took two of three from Seattle and won its third straight series.

Mikolas (2-5), who entered after opener PJ Poulin gave up a run in the first, stifled Seattle on three hits and struck out three without a walk.

Josh Naylor’s double was Seattle’s only extra-base hit and resulted in its lone run. The Mariners have lost four of five and finished 4-6 on their 10-game road trip.

Seattle starter Emerson Hancock (5-3) gave up six runs on nine hits over four innings.

The Mariners struck first as Cole Young reached on an infield single leading off the game. With one out, Naylor doubled to center, and when Jacob Young had trouble fielding the ball, Cole Young raced home.

Wood hit his fifth leadoff homer of the season in the bottom half to make it 1-1.

Dylan Crews led off the fourth with a double and CJ Abrams singled him to third. Crews scored on a Ruiz single and Abrams went to second. After Daylen Lile doubled home Abrams, Nasim Nunez singled to center, scoring Ruiz and Lile. Nunez was safe at home on a Jorbit Vivas infield grounder to make it 6-1.

Ruiz homered with one out in the seventh for a 7-1 lead.

In the eighth, Vivas led off with a walk and came all the way around to score on Young’s double. Seattle manager Dan Wilson and the team trainer then came out to talk with reliever Andres Munoz, who left the game with an apparent injury.

Wood’s double off Alex Hoppe brought home Jacob Young to make it 9-1, and Wood scored when Crews grounded out.

Naylor came out of the game soon after fouling a ball off his right shin in the sixth. He finished the at-bat but was replaced at first base by Patrick Wisdom in the bottom of the inning.
