Wyatt Langford hit a three-run homer and the host Texas Rangers held on for a 4-3 win over the San Diego Padres on Sunday afternoon.

The Rangers, who won for only the second time in six games, took two of three in the series. Langford went 2-for-4, and Josh Jung’s RBI single in the fourth broke a tie. Jung finished 2-for-3. Nicky Lopez went 2-for-2 with two runs scored and Jake Burger was 2-for-4.

It was the finale of a nine-game road trip for the Padres, who had won two of their previous three. Xander Bogaerts was 2-for-3 with an RBI and a run scored.

Rangers’ starter Nathan Eovaldi (7-7) picked up the win after giving up three runs on seven hits over six innings, with one walk and nine strikeouts. His start was delayed a day because he was scratched on Saturday due to left knee soreness.

Jakob Junis got his fifth save after the first two hitters he faced in the ninth singled, but he retired the next three batters.

The loser was bulk hurler Lucas Giolito (2-3), who gave up four runs on seven hits in seven innings with two walks and two strikeouts. He began the second inning after opener Wandy Peralta pitched a scoreless first.

Langford’s three-run homer in the third gave the Rangers a 3-0 lead. He drilled Giolito’s first-pitch changeup down the left-field line an estimated 403 feet.

San Diego tied the game 3-3 with three runs in the top of the fourth.

Gavin Sheets hit an RBI single and Bogaerts made it 3-2 with a run-scoring single, but Sheets was thrown out at the plate trying to add another by Langford in center. Sung-Mun Song tied it with a two-out RBI double.

Jung’s single in the bottom of the fourth gave Texas a 4-3 lead it would not relinquish.

Texas placed right-handed pitcher Jack Leiter on the 15-day injured list with a right ankle posterior impingement and recalled right-hander Jose Corniell from Triple-A Round Rock.

San Diego activated IF Miguel Andujar from the IL and designated IF/OF Nick Solak for assignment. Andujar entered as a pinch hitter in the eighth and grounded into an inning-ending double play.
