Dominic Canzone homered and Logan Gilbert pitched 6 1/3 solid innings as the Seattle Mariners defeated the visiting Boston Red Sox 3-1 Sunday afternoon to salvage the finale of a three-game series.

Nate Eaton went deep for Boston’s only run.

Canzone made a diving catch that started an inning-ending double play in the top of the sixth. He drove in a run on a groundout in the bottom of the inning to make it 3-1 but grabbed his right hamstring after crossing first base and had to leave the game.

Gilbert (6-4) allowed one run on three hits. The right-hander walked two and struck out eight.

Gabe Speier, Eduard Bazardo and Andres Munoz combined for 2 2/3 innings of scoreless relief to close out the game. Munoz earned his 13th save of the season.

The Mariners took the lead in the second as left-handed hitter Canzone, who was getting a rare start against a lefty pitcher in Payton Tolle (3-5), hit the ball the opposite way, which glanced off the top of the left-field wall and went over.

Eaton, the No. 9 hitter in Boston’s lineup, tied it with one out in the top of the next inning with a blast into the second deck in left.

The Mariners regained the lead in the fifth. With two outs, Weston Wilson grounded a single to left and stole second. Cole Young knocked a run-scoring single to left to make it 2-1.

Seattle tacked on a run in the sixth after Julio Rodriguez lined a leadoff single to center. With one out, Rob Refsnyder hit a hard one-hopper that deflected off shortstop Marcelo Mayer and into shallow center for a single, allowing Rodriguez to advance to third. He scored on Canzone’s grounder to short.

Tolle went six innings and gave up three runs on six hits. He walked two and fanned two.
