Brewers ace Jacob Misiorowski doesn’t expect to pitch in All-Star Game

Milwaukee Brewers right-hander Jacob Misiorowski said Thursday that he’s unlikely to pitch in this month’s All-Star Game due to his starting schedule leading into the break.

Misiorowski is slated to start on July 12 at the Pittsburgh Pirates in Milwaukee’s final game before the All-Star break. That would make him ineligible to pitch in the July 14 game in Philadelphia even if he is selected to the team.

Misiorowski expressed disappointment with his plight after being the losing pitcher in Thursday’s 7-2 loss to the Cincinnati Reds.

“I get it,” Misiorowski said. “I get we’re not looking for right now. We’re looking for September, October. It sucks — obviously I want to throw in a game like that — but so be it.”

Misiorowski, 24, is 9-4 with a 1.47 ERA in 17 starts this season. He leads the majors with 156 strikeouts in just 104 innings.

The flamethrower had a pitch timed at 105.5 mph in late June and has become a must-see pitcher.

In fact, he was just five starts into his big-league career when chosen to pitch for the National League in last season’s midsummer classic.

His selection drew criticism, but he’s glad he got to work the scoreless inning.

“It makes it a little easier,” Misiorowski said. “It makes it a little cooler. You get to be one of the guys, the veterans you were there with last year who kind of got to be in the background and watch it, so it’s fun.”

Misiorowski struck out 10 in five innings in Thursday’s loss. He gave up five runs to match a career worst but four of the runs were unearned. He allowed five hits and walked none.

Misiorowski served two homers against the Reds, tying a season worst. He gave up two to the Toronto Blue Jays in a no-decision on April 14.

Misiorowski has lost two of his last three outings after winning seven consecutive decisions.
