After multiple flight issues across two separate days, the Boston Red Sox arrived at Citi Field just over two hours before the originally scheduled 7:15 p.m. ET start time for Friday night’s game at the New York Mets.
The start time was moved back to 7:50 p.m. to give the Red Sox more time to prepare for the game. Most players arrive at the ballpark for road games around four or five hours before first pitch.
Upon the team’s arrival, Boston pitcher Payton Tolle told reporters that the Red Sox waited on a plane for six hours Thursday night due to weather issues in Chicago and seven additional hours on Friday due to mechanical issues before the plane was finally able to take off at 2:45 p.m.
Per reports, Boston’s scheduled Friday starter Sonny Gray did not fly ahead of time, as teams sometimes have opening starters do on road trips.
Boston finished off a three-game sweep of the Chicago White Sox on Thursday afternoon. They have won a season-high six consecutive games and 11 of their last 13.
