Jalen Carter became the highest paid defensive tackle in NFL history after signing a four-year, $152 million contract extension that could increase to $160 million, ESPN reported on Tuesday.

The deal, which reportedly includes $106 million guaranteed, will give Carter the distinction of being the highest-paid player at his position based on the contract’s $38 million average annual value.

The Eagles announced the extension through 2031 for Carter, however they did not disclose financial terms.

Per Spotrac, Carter will earn a base salary of $1,145,000 and a roster bonus of $2,578,570 in 2026.

The Eagles initially picked up Carter’s fifth-year option in April.

Carter, 25, was the ninth overall pick in the 2023 NFL Draft. A Pro Bowl honoree each of the past two years, Carter helped the Eagles win Super Bowl LIX.

Carter has 108 tackles, 13.5 sacks, four forced fumbles, one fumble recovery and 13 passes defensed in 43 games (27 starts). Last season, he logged 33 tackles, three sacks and a career-best seven passes defensed in 11 games (all starts) despite being slowed by shoulder injuries.
