Brooks Koepka’s first season back on the PGA Tour ended without a spot in the FedEx Cup playoffs, prompting a harsh self-assessment from the five-time major champion Sunday.
Koepka closed the Wyndham Championship with an even-par 70 to finish tied miles off the pace at 3 under. He entered the final regular-season event ranked 86th in the FedEx Cup standings and needed at least a solo fourth-place finish to climb inside the top 70. Instead, he’s projected to fall to No. 93 in the standings.
“Yeah, pretty disappointed,” Koepka said of missing out on the FedEx Cup Playoffs. “I think it’s pretty pathetic that I can’t get through. Zero top-10s basically in two years. To be in the prime of your career and be as good as I think I am, I think that’s very pathetic, disappointing. Just need to go home and completely re-evaluate everything.”
Koepka put himself in position to make a run after opening with rounds of 67 and 66 at Sedgefield Country Club. A third-round 74 sent him tumbling down the leaderboard, however, and Sunday’s 70 was not nearly enough to revive his playoff chances.
The 36-year-old pointed to his putting as the biggest concern. Koepka ranks 28th on tour in strokes gained overall but just 116th in strokes gained putting, a sharp contrast to the strength of the rest of his game.
“Ball-struck it great,” Koepka said of his week in Greensboro, N.C. “It’s just all on the greens. I don’t know what the deal is. Got zero confidence, can’t putt. I don’t know. There’s going to be a lot of changes here soon.”
Koepka returned to PGA Tour competition this year after spending 2022-25 with LIV Golf. He made 10 cuts in 15 starts, recorded six top-25 finishes and had only one top-10, a tie for ninth at the Cognizant Classic in March.
His major results were similarly uneven. Koepka tied for 12th at the Masters and 28th at the Open Championship, finished tied for 55th at the PGA Championship and missed the cut at the U.S. Open.
