Dominic Canzone and Taylor Ward each drove in two runs during a four-run first inning, and the visiting Seattle Mariners claimed an early seven-run lead before holding on for a 7-5 win over the Milwaukee Brewers on Wednesday.

Josh Naylor had three hits and two RBIs for Seattle, which won for the third time in four games and bounced back from a 22-0 loss in Tuesday’s series opener. Brendan Donovan and Canzone had two hits apiece.

Logan Gilbert (10-7) allowed three runs on four hits with four walks and five strikeouts over five-plus innings. Andres Munoz retired the Brewers in order in the ninth for his 23rd save.

Joey Ortiz slugged a two-run homer and matched his career high with four RBIs for Milwaukee, which went 2-for-10 with runners in scoring position and had its three-game win streak snapped.

One night after suffering the worst loss of their 50-year history, the Mariners batted around and took a 4-0 lead in the first inning against Dustin May (6-8).

Donovan and Randy Arozarena opened the game with singles before Canzone lined a two-run double to left field. With two outs, May issued consecutive walks to load the bases for Ward, who singled in two runs.

May’s struggles continued in the second inning, when the Brewers tacked on three runs. After Milwaukee loaded the bases with no outs, one run scored on Julio Rodriguez’s sacrifice fly, and Naylor followed with a two-run single.

May allowed seven runs on seven hits over two innings. He walked two and struck out one.

The Brewers got on the board in the bottom of the second on Ortiz’s two-run homer into the left-center-field seats. The 391-foot shot was Ortiz’s seventh homer of the season.

Gilbert was replaced by Eduard Bazardo after granting consecutive walks to begin the sixth inning. Andrew Vaughn singled to load the bases, and Luis Lara struck out before a run scored on Ortiz’s sacrifice fly.

Milwaukee pulled closer with two runs in the eighth inning against Seranthony Dominguez. With two on and no outs, Ortiz singled in a run before another scored on Cooper Pratt’s double-play groundout.
