A resilient response Tuesday night helped the Chicago White Sox even their three-game series with the visiting Texas Rangers at one game apiece.
On Wednesday night, the White Sox will look to channel the same resolve in an effort to win the set between American League playoff contenders.
“That’s the most impressive part of our team,” said Chicago right-hander Sean Burke, who will start Wednesday night. “We don’t have a ton of experience, but we don’t let games build over.”
AL Central-leading Chicago defeated Texas 11-7 on Tuesday after getting routed 11-2 one night earlier. White Sox outfielder Tristan Peters went 3-for-3 with three RBIs while homering in his fourth straight game, all at Rate Field.
“You know, I think it’s confidence,” Peters said in an on-field interview after the game. “All these fans coming out … just gives us confidence, and it’s awesome to play in front of you all.”
Chase Meidroth joined Peters with a three-hit game. Sam Antonacci, Miguel Vargas and Brenton Doyle each had two hits for the White Sox, who took a 6-0 lead in the first inning.
Texas stayed afloat behind home runs from Jake Burger, Danny Jansen and Justin Foscue.
Burger, Chicago’s first-round draft pick in 2017, went deep for the second straight night for his team-best 23rd homer.
The Rangers fell a half-game behind Houston for first place in the AL West as their pitching staff scuffled.
“I’m proud of the fight back, obviously, but we just couldn’t keep them there, and they just kept tacking on runs,” Texas manager Skip Schumaker said. “It was tough to fight back after that. … You try and stop the bleeding a little bit; the offense kept fighting back.
“So, some good signs, where the offense is the last three or four nights, which is really encouraging. Just a tough start tonight. Hopefully, we can turn the page and get back at them (Wednesday).”
Rangers scheduled starter MacKenzie Gore will aim to keep a superb August intact. Gore (7-9, 4.26 ERA) has pitched to a 1.57 ERA over four starts this month, with 25 strikeouts in 23 innings.
Schumaker said Gore was “just fantastic” in Friday’s no-decision against the visiting Los Angeles Angels. The left-hander spaced two hits, one walk, one hit batter and seven strikeouts in six scoreless innings of his team’s 2-1 victory in 10 innings.
Gore has three quality starts in his past five outings, and Wednesday will mark his first career appearance against the White Sox.
Burke (7-6, 3.27 ERA) will oppose Gore as the Chicago right-hander tries for his first victory since July 19.
Burke took a no-decision against the visiting New York Mets on Friday after yielding four runs and seven hits in six innings with no walks and four strikeouts in a 6-4 Chicago win.
Burke has allowed a home run in each of his four August starts after surrendering just two homers in July over 31 2/3 innings. He defeated the Rangers in his only career start against them, allowing one run and three hits in six innings of a 4-1 win on May 23, 2025.
Burke walked three and struck out six, and Burger drove in Texas’ only run with a sixth-inning double.
The White Sox lead the second-place Cleveland Guardians by 2 1/2 games in the AL Central.
